Cambodia, Korea Strengthen Cooperation

H.E. Chhieng Yanara, Minister Attached to the Prime Minister and Secretary General of Cambodian Rehabilitation and Development Board of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CRDB/CDC), received here yesterday a visiting senior delegation of Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).

The meeting touched on KOICA’s development cooperation activities and KOICA’s grant aid to Cambodia as well as the exchange of view on the development cooperation and partnership between both countries, pointed out a KOICA’s news release AKP received this afternoon.

H.E. Chhieng Yanara, also Vice Chairman of the Supreme National Economic Council (SNEC), warmly welcomed the visiting delegation led by KOICA Acting President H.E. Choi Sungho and highly appreciated the good partnership and close cooperation between the two countries. He also thanked the Government of Korea for its contribution to Cambodia’s development in all domains.

The Republic of Korea showed its strong commitment in its development cooperation with Cambodia even though the Kingdom is now moving from a low-income to a lower-middle income status, he said, stressing that at least 40 percent of its assistance to Cambodia is in the form of grants.

From his side, Mr. Choi Sungho said Cambodia ranked the 3rd large recipient country of KOICA’s grant aid. He lauded the existing cooperation between KOICA and Cambodia, affirming that KOICA will do its best to push for the implementation of more new projects for Cambodia.

According to CDC, as of 2016, Korea has provided approximately US$526 million to Cambodia. The partnership between the two countries has been further enhanced through the joint implementation of partnership strategy 2016-2020, focusing on areas of transport, water management, public health, education and rural development.
