Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam Discuss Ways to Strengthen Parliamentary Public Account Oversight of State Budgets

A delegation of the Cambodian National Assembly (NA)’s Commission on Economy, Finance, Banking and Audit led by its Deputy Chairman H.E. Loy Sophath has attended the 8th Joint Workshop on Strengthening the Public Account Committees Oversight of the State Budgets between the NAs of Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar and Vietnam (CLMV), in Luangprabang city, Laos, from April 8 to 11.

President of Lao NA H.E. Ms. Pany Yathotou, who chaired the event’s opening ceremony, emphasised the important roles of NA in inspecting and examining the effective practices in national budget and public finance for the sake of citizens. She also expressed her support to the workshop, saying that it is a forum for the CLMV’s NA committees to learn from each other for the common interest and prosperity of each nation.

The workshop focused on sharing experiences to better address new challenges of Public Account Committees, to examine achievements of the previous workshop held in Phnom Penh, and to draft future cooperation to ensure transparency, effectiveness and efficiency in planning and auditing national budget.

The participants also agreed to hold the joint workshop every two years on a rotating basis and to welcome the participation of technical institutions such as the finance ministry and audit authority of the four countries and of international organisations and financial institutions such as Asian Development Bank (ADB), World Bank (WB), International Monetary Fund (IMF), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and other development partners for financial and technical supports.
