Cambodia, Laos To Deepen Bilateral Cooperation

Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen held official talks with his visiting Lao counterpart H.E. Thongloun Sisoulith, at the Peace Palace, Phnom Penh this morning.

The over-two-hour bilateral meeting focused mainly on boosting economic cooperation and maintaining the ties of friendship and security along the common border, H.E. Eang Sophalleth, Assistant to the Cambodian premier, told reporters.

According to the assistant, H.E. Thongloun Sisoulith congratulated the joint activities commemorating the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Cambodia and Laos, and expressed his satisfaction with the progress in trade, tourism and security cooperation between the two neighboring nations.

The Lao prime minister highly valued the visit exchange between leaders of both countries and the existing mechanisms to promote the implementation of the MoUs and agreements already signed for the development of the two nations.

For his part, Samdech Techo Hun Sen shared the same idea with his Lao counterpart over the cooperation between Cambodia and Laos, and agreed with H.E. Thongloun Sisoulith's suggestion over the opening of more international border gates in order to facilitate the travel as well as trade and tourism exchange at the common border.

Besides, the Cambodian and Lao leaders agreed to establish their respective consulates in the Cambodian province of Stung Treng and the Lao province of Champasak.
