Cambodia Looks Forward to Welcoming All Foreign Guests at 55th AMM and Related Meetings

As the host of the the upcoming 55th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (55th AMM) and Related Meetings, Cambodia is looking foward to welcoming all foreign guests, including U.S. Secretary of State H.E. Antony Blinken.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, some foreign ministers of the 38 foreign nations invited to the 55th AMM and Related Meetings to be held in Phnom Penh from July 31 to Aug. 6, 2022 have confirmed their participation while some others not yet.

Among the foreign ministers who have not yet given their confirmation include U.S. Secretary of State H.E. Antony Blinken.

“At this time, we have nothing to confirm,” said Ms. Stephanie Arzate, U.S. Embassy’s Spokesperson.

Despite no confirmation about H.E. Antony Blinken’s attendance yet, U.S. officials have been working with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation regarding this important event.

H.E. Luy David, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and also the Chair of the National Secretariat for the Preparation of ASEAN 2022 said on Tuesday that he had a good meeting with Mr. Benjamin Wohlauer, Deputy Chief of Mission of the U.S. Embassy.

“Cambodia looks forward to welcoming U.S. Secretary of State H.E. Antony Blinken on his official trip to the Kingdom to attend ASEAN related meetings in August,” he wrote on social media.

Earlier on July 22, 2022, H.E. Nom Piseth, Under Secretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, also received Mr. Benjamin Wohlauer, for a courtesy call and to discuss the bilateral cooperation and the upcoming 55th AMM and Related Meetings.

The U.S. is a member the East Asia Summit (EAS) and the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF). Besides, the U.S. is among the 11 full dialogue partners of ASEAN.
