Cambodia Needs Some 8,000 pigs for Daily Consumption

Cambodia needs about 8,000 pigs per day for local consumption, according to the President of Cambodia Pig Farmer Association Mr. Srun Pov.

Some 7,000 pigs are supplied by local pig farmers, while the rest are imported, he added.

Cambodians eat an average of 16.13 kilogrammes of meat annually or approximately 289,091 tons, said H.E. Veng Sakhon, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.

Cambodian people consume some 81,204 tons of beef, 183,497 tons of pork, and 24,213 tons of poultry a year, said the minister.

Besides meat, they eat fish, seafood, and there are also many of them who are vegetarians.
