Cambodia Seeks Korea’s Support in Capacity Building and Research Cooperation in Water Resources Sector

H.E. Lim Kean Hor, Minister of Water Resources and Meteorology (MOWRAM), has requested the National Research Council for Economics, Humanities and Social Sciences (NRC) of Korea to consider the possibility to support capacity building and research cooperation in Cambodia’s water resources sector.

The MOWRAM minister made the request while receiving recently a visiting Korean NRC delegation led by its Chairman Mr. Kyoung Ryung Seong.

During the meeting, H.E. Minister expressed his warm welcome to the NRC’s delegates, and the two sides exchanged information about their individual institutions.

H.E. Lim Kean Hor talked about Cambodia’s geographical location, MOWRAM’s missions and strategic plan, its challenges and achievements, and its prioritised activities in contribution to development and enhancement of Cambodia’s economic growth, while the NRC chairman accepted Cambodia’s request and briefed H.E. Minister on the background of NRC, together with water resources management and development in South Korea, key challenges and solutions it had opted for in the past, at present, and in the future.

On behalf of the Royal Government and people of Cambodia, H.E. Minister thanked the Government and people of the Republic of Korea for their support to Cambodia’s development. He also pointed out the significance of scientific and technical research in water resources and meteorology sector, exemplifying that the ministry had established a research working group to collect existing and new scientific and technical knowledge as a background knowledge to better support policy-making process in the sector and to help in developing strategies and management plans of water resources and meteorology in the Kingdom.

Mr. Kyoung Ryung Seong informed H.E. Minister of his visit in Cambodia, the purpose of which is to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the Royal Academy of Cambodia on cooperation in research sector and to discuss with line ministries about how to put this cooperation to work for each sector.
