Cambodia Sees Tourism Cooperation Opening in the One Belt, One Road Initiative

Cambodia has seen opportunities in the One Belt, One Road initative for countries including the Kingdom to further enhance tourism and cultural cooperation.

The insight was presented by Tourism Minister H.E. Thong Khon during a side-line forum of the First Conference on Dialogue among Asian Civilisations held in Beijing of China yesterday afternoon.

To seize the emerging opportunities, the minister encouraged countries to facilitate a joint package of cultural tourism that will also contribute to building peace, understanding and relationship among nations.

A highlight from the gathering shows that the world has considered China as both tourist destination and market, wherein the Asian biggest country received 140 million tourists and 160 million of its people travelled the world in 2018.

On the occasion, H.E. Thong Khon also shared with participating delegations about the strategy Cambodia is applying to attract tourists from China, including the introduction of China Ready strategy for 2016-2020.

Cambodia welcomed some 860,000 Chinese tourists during the first quarter of 2019, suggesting an increase of about 35 percent compared to the same period last year.

According to the same source, Chinese represented 2.02 million of a total 6.2 million foreign tourists visiting Cambodia in 2018.
