Cambodia, Thailand Sign Two Cooperation Deals

Cambodia and Thailand on Dec. 16 reached an agreement and an addendum to memorandum of understanding to further boost the transport sector of the two neighbouring countries.

The two documents were signed by Cambodian Senior Minister and Minister of Public Works and Transport H.E. Sun Chanthol and Thai Transport Minister H.E. Arkhom Termpittayapaisith, on the sidelines of the Fifth Joint Committee Meeting for the Greater Mekong Subregion Cross-Border Transport Facilitation Agreement in Chiang Mai, Thailand, said a news release of the Cambodian Ministry of Public Works and Transport.

According to the same source, the first document is the Agreement between the Royal Government of Cambodia and the Government of the Kingdom of Thailand on the Construction of the new Border Bridge at Stung Bot-Ban Nong Ian. Under this agreement, the Government of the Kingdom of Thailand provides the grant to build the section of the bridge on the Cambodian side as well as the concessional loan to construct the border facilities at the new check point and the road from the new check point to the National Road No. 5, which is also the ASEAN Highway No. 1.

The second document is the Addendum Two to the Memorandum of Understanding between the Royal Government of Cambodia and the Government of the Kingdom of Thailand on the Exchange of Traffic Rights for Cross-Border Transport through the Poipet-Aranyaprathet Border Crossing Points, it concluded.
