Cambodia To Construct another Drug Addiction Correctional Center in Preah Sihanouk Province

The Royal Government of Cambodia is planning to construct a national drug addiction correctional center in Preah Sihanouk province, with the total cost of approximately US$ 4 million, according to Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister H.E. Ke Kim Yan, President of National Authority for Combating Drug (NACD), as quoted in a local media report.

Cambodian competent authority is ready to arrest over 5,000 serious drug users among more than 10,000 drug users across the country to the correctional centers in order to provide them treatments and training skills, added H.E. Ke Kim Yan.

The establishment of this center will help reduce crimes in the country, as over 50 percent of offenders have come from the drug users, Gen. Mok Chito, Deputy General of the General Commissariat of National Police.

In 2016, Cambodian authorities cracked down on 4,191 drug cases, arresting some 9,802 suspects and seizing over 175 kilograms of drugs.
