Cambodia To Host 2nd Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Siem Reap

The 2nd Mekong-Lancang Cooperation (MLC) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting will be held in Siem Reap from Dec. 22-23, 2016, according to a press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MFA-IC).

H.E. Prak Sokhonn, Senior Minister and Minister of MFA-IC in his capacity as Co-chair of this forthcoming meeting has extended the invitation to his fellow foreign ministers of China and the Mekong countries, it added.

In this regard, it pointed out, H.E. Wang Yi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of China, Co-chair of the meeting; H.E. Saleumxay Kommasith, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Lao PDR; H.E. U Kyaw Tin, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of Myanmar; H.E. Don Pramudwinai, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand; and H.E. Pham Binh Minh, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam have already confirmed their participations.

This meeting will provide an excellent opportunity to review the progress made as well as to exchange views on the future direction of Mekong-Lancang Cooperation framework since the successful convening of the 1st Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Leaders’ Meeting last March 2016, underlined the same source.

The meeting will endorse different documents, including the Joint Press Communique of the 2nd Foreign Ministers’ Meeting; Matrix of Follow-ups to the Outcomes of the 1st MLC Leaders’ Meeting; and General Principles for the Establishment of the Joint Working Groups on the MLC key priority areas, it said.

On the sidelines of the meeting, H.E. Prak Sokhonn will also have bilateral talks with some heads of delegation, it concluded.
