Cambodia To Reserve 4 to 5 Billion Riel for Veterans’ Support

Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, has asked the Ministry of Economy and Finance to set aside some 4 to 5 billion Riel (about 4,000 Riel equal to US$1) a year to support veterans and their families.

Speaking at the celebration of 9th Cambodian Veteran Day held here this morning, Samdech Techo Hun Sen said the ministry should reserve annually from 4 to 5 billion Riel of the national budget for the Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation to support families of fallen veterans and the Cambodia Veteran Association.

Even though the Cambodia Veteran Association is a non-governmental organisation, the government must set aside some budget for the association because it is a spending for social affairs, underlined the premier.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen also requested the Ministry of National Defense to continue assisting veterans and their families.

Currently, Cambodia has a total of 86,156 veterans and some 134,681 people are under their support.
