Cambodia To Suggest Creation of Industrial Zones at Border with Thailand

Cambodia will suggest the Thai side to create industrial zones at the common border to create more jobs for Cambodians and to reduce their migration for work in Thailand.

The suggestion will be raised during the visit by H.E. Gen. Prayuth Chan-o-cha, Prime Minister of Thailand, to Cambodia in September this year to co-chair the 3rd Cambodia-Thailand Joint Cabinet Retreat, said Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, while holding a get-together with nearly 17,000 factory workers and employees at Phnom Penh Special Economic Zone, located in Kambol district, Khan Pursenchey, Phnom Penh this morning.

On the occasion, Samdech Techo Hun Sen highlighted the royal government's commitment to promote the workers' pay rise, to create more job opportunities both inside and outside the country and to provide coordination so that Cambodian undocumented migrant workers, especially those in Thailand, get their legal status.

More than 1 million Cambodians are currently working in Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Thailand and so on.
