Cambodia, UK FMs Share Positive Bilateral Cooperation

H.E. Prak Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia, has had an exchange of views and discussion with The Rt Hon Amanda Milling, Minister for Asia and Middle East at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (UK).

The meeting, held on Aug. 4 on the sidelines of the 55th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and Related Meetings in Phnom Penh, focused on the enhancement of relations and cooperation in the bilateral and multilateral frameworks, according to H.E. Chum Sounry, Secretary of State and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation,

In the meeting, H.E. Prak Sokhonn recalled the first visit of The Rt Hon Amanda Milling to Cambodia in early January 2022, during which Cambodia and the UK affirmed the strong commitment to further strengthen relations and cooperation bilaterally and internationally.

H.E. Prak Sokhonn and Minister Amanda Milling also shared the assessment that Cambodia and the UK have enjoyed excellent relations and suggested to have joint activities to commemorate in next year the 70th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between both countries.

The Deputy PM thanked the UK for providing Cambodia with GSP that has contributed in the development of Cambodia-UK trade ties. He also appreciated UK’s continued assistance to Cambodia’s socio-economic development, health, mine clearance, and education.

In the multilateral framework, H.E. Prak Sokhonn appreciated the 1st ASEAN-UK Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and thanked the UK for the support to Cambodia’s ASEAN Chairmanship 2022.

Both sides exchanged views on various regional and international issues of common interests and concerns, ranging from ASEAN-EU and ASEAN-UK relations, the situation in Myanmar, security development in the Indo-Pacific to the Ukraine Crisis.
