Cambodia, UN Launch United Nations Joint Programme on Youth Employment

Cambodia and UN have launched the 2017-2018 United Nations Joint Programme on Youth Employment in Cambodia.

The launch of the programme including the signing ceremony took place here recently under the presidency of H.E. Ith Samheng, Minister of Labour and Vocational Training and five representatives from ILO, UNDP, UNESCO, UNICEF and UNV.

Beside the mentioned events, concerned stakeholders also signed an agreement to become a strategic development partnership with Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).

Ms. Claire Van der Vaeren, UN Resident Coordinator in Cambodia emphasised the significance of the programme to promote decent employment among youths as well as women and the vulnerable.

The programme will provide collective opportunities for the government and partners, including UN, civil society organisations and private sector to work to join hands in addressing employment issues.

H.E. Ith Samheng appreciated contribution from all partners, stressing that the programme will help enhance the better quality jobs for youths, especially those vulnerable.

The US$4.5 million worth programme is a multilateral cooperation among the government and above-listed UN agencies under a strategic partnership of SDC, according to the agency's director Ms. Carin Salerno.
