Cambodia, UN to Further Strengthen Cooperation

Cambodia and the United Nations have agreed to further strengthen cooperation on social protection system and sustainable development goals.
The commitment was made in a meeting on Dec. 13 between H.E. Aun Pornmoniroth, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance and newly-appointed UN Resident Coordinator to Cambodia Mr. Joseph Scheuer.
H.E. Aun Pornmoniroth recalled the close cooperation between Cambodia and the UN, particularly on the fight against COVID-19.
He thanked the UN for its contribution to Cambodia’s economic growth, especially through the technical assistance for social protection sector which is a government’s priority toward the achievement of the sustainable development goals.
The Cambodian DPM also spoke highly of the UN’s support for Cambodia to achieve its ambition to become an upper middle-income country by 2030 and attain the high-income status in 2050.
Besides, he asked the UN Resident Coordinator and other development partners to support Cambodia’s target to become a mine-free country by 2025.
Mr. Joseph Scheuer highly valued Cambodia’s rapid development, including the effective response and containment of COVID-19.
The UN is supporting Cambodia to achieve the 2030 sustainable development goals and will work closely with the Royal Government of Cambodia in preparing UN Cooperation Framework 2024-2028 well aligned with Cambodia’s development priorities.
