Cambodia, Vietnam Agreed to End Land Leases Along Border Area

The Kingdom of Cambodia and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam have reached an agreement to stop land leases along the common border.

The agreement was made at the closing the 9th Meeting on Cooperation and Development of the Cambodia-Vietnam Border Provinces, co-chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Samdech Kralahom Sar Kheng and visiting Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam H.E. Pham Binh Minh, in Phnom Penh on Mar. 15.

Both leaders spokes highly the above-said meeting which contributes to strengthening and expanding the bond of friendship and cooperation between the two neighboring countries, H.E. Prum Sokha, Secretary of State for Interior told reporters after the meeting.

In a nine-page joint statement of the 9th Meeting on Cooperation and Development of the Cambodia-Vietnam Border Provinces, both sides agreed on 16 points to further tighten their relationship and cooperation in all sectors, especially in the areas of economy, trade and investment.

Bilateral trade between Cambodia and Vietnam was about US$2,920 million in 2016, down 13.1 percent compared with figure in 2015.
