Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen said the border demarcation between Cambodia and Vietnam will be 90 percent complete.
Addressing at the a get-together with more than 2,000 Cambodians living in the U.S. and Canada, in Washington D.C. on May 11 evening (Washington D.C time), on the sidelines of the ASEAN-U.S. Special Summit, Samdech Techo Hun Sen said both nations had so far achieved some 84 percent of border demarcation, and recently the two border committees have negotiated on 6 percent of the remaining 16 percent land boundary.
Regarding this issue, the Cambodian Premier said some people had accused him of selling Cambodia’s territory to Vietnam, but in fact the Royal Government has put all efforts to protect the nation and land.
“If Hun Sen sells our land, why do we need to negotiate and settle the border issues?” he asked.
In his bilateral talks with his Vietnamese counterpart H.E. Pham Minh Chinh earlier on the same day, both leaders agreed to push the two countries’ border committees to complete their negotiations on the 6 percent land boundary soon, H.E. Kao Kim Hourn, Minister Attached to the Prime Minister told reporters after the meeting, adding that Samdech Techo Hun Sen invited H.E. Pham Minh Chinh to pay a visit to Cambodia before the ASEAN Summit in November this year to sign border document on the 6 percent.
Cambodia shares a 1,270-kilometre border with Vietnam and the two countries have been working actively on the common border demarcation since 2006.
