Cambodia, Vietnam Highly Value Bilateral Relations and Cooperation

The Kingdom of Cambodia and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam have lauded their historical and long-lasting relationship and their bilateral cooperation which have progressed unceasingly from one day to another.

The appreciation was made in the separate meetings between H.E. Prak Sokhonn, Senior Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia, and H.E. Tran Dai Quang, President; H.E. Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Prime Minister; and H.E. Pham Binh Minh, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Viet Nam, during the former’s visit to Viet Nam on June 21-23, according to a press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation on the outcome of the visit.

In the bilateral talk between H.E. Prak Sokhonn and his Vietnamese counterpart H.E. Pham Binh Minh, both sides agreed to further enhance the existing excellent bonds of traditional friendship, good neighborliness, solidarity, and productive cooperation between the two countries, and to boost the two-way trade up to US$5 billion by encouraging more direct investments, pushing for the signing of double taxation agreement, achieving a new agreement on trade and exchange of goods and services at the border, building model market at common border in Thbong Khmum province, preventing smuggling and organising frequent trade fairs.

Both foreign ministers also agreed to promote the cooperation between bordering provincial authorities, speed up the border marker planting, support mutually in the regional and international frameworks, and jointly organise different activities to mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countreis.

The new Cambodian top diplomat started visiting the neighboring countries last week. He paid a visit to Laos from June 16 to 18, at the invitation of H.E. Saleumxay Kommasith, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Lao PDR, then an introductory visit to the Kingdom of Thailand on June 19-20, at the invitation of H.E. Don Pramudwinai, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, and a visit to Viet Nam from June 21 to 23, at the invitation of H.E. Pham Binh Minh, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Viet Nam.
