Cambodian Cashew Nut Yields Reach Over 100,000 Metric Tons

Cambodia yielded some 104,268 metric tons for the 2016-2017 cultivation period, according to a report of the General Directorate of Agriculture at the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries.

The amount was harvested from 79,487 hectares out of 97,614 hectares of cashew growing areas in 22 provinces across the country, it pointed out.

Kampong Thom, Kampong Cham, and Rattanakiri are the top three provinces with the largest cultivated areas of 28,989, 14,097, and 27,289 hectares, respectively.

Recently, H.E. Veng Sakhon, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, said Vietnam alone imported about 100,000 metric tons of cashew nuts from Cambodia last year. He therefore encouraged Vietnamese companies to build processing factories in the country so as to further boost the exports.
