Cambodian Commerce Minister Receives a Japanese Delegation

Cambodia's Minister of Commerce H.E. Pan Sorasak received here yesterday afternoon a delegation from Japan led by Prof. Fumio Hoshi, Senior Advisor to the Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation to discuss investment ideas in the energy sector in Cambodia, according to the ministry's new release.

On the occasion, Prof. Fumio Hoshi said energy is a key issue in attracting investments to the country.

According to Prof. Fumio Hoshi, before coming to Cambodia, he met with a number of Japanese companies who have expressed interests in making investment in the energy sector. A number of options have been studied including using oil generators in place of coal-powered plants, solar energy and the construction of transmission line connecting cheap electricity from Lao PDR.

In his response, H.E. Pan Sorasak fully supported the initiative made by Prof. Fumio Hoshi and requested him to continue advocating investment opportunities in Cambodia as he is a well-respected person among Japanese business community.

H.E. Minister further said that many Japanese companies have already made their respective successful investments in Cambodia and with the special preferences provided to companies investing in Special Economic Zones (SEZ), he is optimistic that many more Japanese companies will come and invest in Cambodia in the near future.
