Cambodian Embassy Promotes Khmer Foods to Malaysian Market

Ambassador to Malaysia H.E. Cheuy Vichet launched a Cambodian food promotion event in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday.
“Food is a means of connecting people regardless of cultural differences, race or religion,” the ambassador said.
He said the event — the first of its kind — was aimed at “not only promoting bilateral trade, investment and tourism between Cambodia and Malaysia but also further deepening good and long-lasting friendship and cooperation between our two countries as part of the ASEAN family.”
The ambassador also signed four memoranda of understanding to promote Cambodian foods in the Malaysian market.
“The signing paves the way for us to collaborate and explore opportunities to develop and support programs that will be mutually beneficial to the parties concerned,” he said.
“We will try to assist and support each other to promote and create awareness of sumptuous Cambodian cuisines in Malaysia and facilitate business matching between company members of the Malaysian associations and entrepreneurs in Cambodia,” he added.
The memoranda of understanding are with the Malaysian Retail Chain Association, the Malaysian Franchise Association, the Small and Medium Enterprises Association of Malaysia and GenYouth Sdn. Bhd.
“It’s been a great success,” the ambassador said. “Some have already expressed their interest in opening up Cambodian restaurants or adding Khmer dishes to their menus.”
“Mrs. Shirley Tay, president of the Malaysian Retail Chain Association, wants to work with the embassy to bring a group of some 30 Malaysian entrepreneurs to visit to explore opportunities for bilateral trade and investment in the first quarter of 2022.”
