Cambodian FM Meets Minister of International Development and the Pacific of Australia

Senior Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation H.E. Prak Sokhonn held talks here yesterday with visiting Senator the Hon Concetta Fierravanti-Wells, Minister of International Development and the Pacific of Australia, on the strengthening and expansion of cooperation between the two nations.

According to H.E. Chum Sounry, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, both sides lauded the progress in the ties of friendship and cooperation between Cambodia and Australia.

The Cambodian top diplomat thanked the Government and people of Australia for their support to the development of Cambodia. He requested the Government of Australia to continue assisting Cambodia in the sectors of agriculture, gender and mine clearance.

For her part, H.E. Ms. Concetta Fierravanti-Wells expressed her satisfaction with the results of Australia’s development assistance to Cambodia, affirming Australia’s continued support to mine clearance in the Kingdom. Moreover, she thanked Cambodia for the cooperation and support to the settlement of refugees from Australia’s Nauru Island.

Cambodia is one of the five countries that attract Australian students for experience exchange, she underlined.

For ASEAN-Australia Dialogue Relations, H.E. Ms. Concetta Fierravanti-Wells hoped that Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, will participate in the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit to be held in Australia in March 2018.
