Cambodian Foreign Minister Receives New Country Director of WFP

Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation H.E. Prak Sokhonn received here yesterday credential letter from Ms. Francesca Erdelmann, newly appointed Representative and Country Director of World Food Programme (WFP) for Cambodia.

According to H.E. Ket Sophann, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MFA-IC), in their courtesy meeting, H.E. Prak Sokhonn affirmed the MFA-IC’s readiness to cooperate with Ms. Francesca Erdelmann for the success of her mission, while Ms. Francesca Erdelmann expressed thanks to H.E. Deputy Prime Minister and the Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC) for their support to her mission as the new WFP Country Director.

She emphasised that WFP will approve soon the draft Cambodia Country Strategic Plan, which is quite similar to the RGC’s Rectangular Strategy.

H.E. Prak Sokhonn thanked the WFP for helping Cambodia in the difficult time in 1979 when Cambodia faced food shortage. Now, he added, WFP has changed its role from a food donor to be a good and strong partner of the RGC in supporting the implementation of Cambodia’s sustainable strategic plan.

The spokesperson stated that WFP has closely worked with the RGC and relevant institutions such as the National Committee for Disaster Management, Council for Agricultural and Rural Development, Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, to reach the goal of zero hunger in line with the UN Millennium Development Goals.
