Cambodian Foreign Minister Receives New Head of Mission of ICRC

Cambodia's Senior Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation H.E. Prak Sokhonn received here this morning Mr. Roman Paramonov, newly appointed Head of Mission of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Cambodia.

On the occasion, H.E. Prak Sokhonn expressed his high appreciation for the ICRC's support to Cambodia since the country's liberation from the Khmer Rouge genocidal regime in 1979, H.E. Chum Sounry, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation told reporters after the meeting.

The Cambodian top diplomat laid stress on the cooperation between ICRC and the Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC) in prison reform and disabled people rehabilitation. H.E. Minister also sought cooperation between ICRC and the Cambodian Training Institute for Diplomats on international humanitarian law, once the institute operated.

For his part, Mr. Roman Paramonov said Cambodia is the first country that has good cooperation with ICRC. He further pledged to continue working with the RGC in prison improvement, prisoners' health treatment and disabled people rehabilitation as well as international humanitarian law enforcement.
