Cambodian In-service Teachers Receive Local Country Training on Capacity Building from KOICA and KOREATECH

KOICA Cambodia Office held here yesterday a pre-departure orientation for the Cambodian government officials who are selected for the second year of the three-year country-focused training on Capacity Building for Developing In-Service Teacher Training Programme.

According to a KOICA’s press release, the training will take place from Aug. 19 to Sept. 1, 2018, at KOREATECH, Korea University of Technology and Education, at Seongnam and Cheonan in the Republic of Korea.

During the pre-departure orientation, KOICA Cambodia Officers briefly introduced the courses and orientated participants about the important things in Korea, the information about the Cambodia Korea Alumni Association (CAMKAA), and the code of conduct of the training programme.

The 23 selected candidates, who are from the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MoEYS) including Teacher Training Department (TTD), Phnom Penh Teacher Education College, National Institute of Education (NIE), Battambang Teacher Education College, Regional Teacher Training Centre of Kampong Cham, Prey Veng and Takeo, Provincial Teacher Training Centre of Kandal, Siem Reap, Prey Veng, Kampong Cham, Kampong Speu, Pursat, Kampong Thom and Stung Treng provinces, showed their gratitude to KOICA and the Korean government for supporting and they committed to bring social and policy reforms in Cambodia after learning from Korean experience.

Deputy Director of KOICA Office, Mr. Kang Hwang Wook welcomed and congratulated the selected participants. He also requested the candidates to avail this excellent opportunity to learn from Korea’s development during staying in and share their experience in Cambodia for sustainable development.

The objective of the programme is to identifying, developing and applying in-service teacher training system, to the main target group of teacher trainers for lower secondary schools from grade 7 to grade 9 in Cambodia. In the programme, participants will study in five modules in Korea including 1) Pre-Service and In-Service Training System 2) Instructional System and Methods 3) Teaching Skills and Curriculum 4) Field trip for teacher training system and 5) Development of Implication and action plan. Therefore, our participant will get guiding with coaching for those capabilities building. Then, they will be able to build their own In-service teacher training system and apply those for better education system development in Cambodia.

Every year, KOICA provides three Country-Specific Trainings for more than 50 government officials in development-related fields. In 2017, there were 55 participants. This year, KOICA is focusing the three Country-Specific Training to the MoEYS about the Capacity Building for Developing In-Service Teacher Training Programme (Cambodia) 2017-2019 and Cambodian Rehabilitation and Development of Cambodia (CRDC) CRDB/CDC, Royal Government of Cambodia about Monitoring and Evaluation with total participants of around 62.
