Cambodian Intellectuals Welcome the Hosting of WEF on ASEAN 2017

A group of Cambodian intellectuals have shared the same views that the hosting of the World Economic Forum on ASEAN 2017 is beneficial to the Kingdom.

Mr. Chea Kosal, a Professor at the Institute of Technology of Cambodia (ITC) told AKP this afternoon that WEF on ASEAN is very important as it will enhance Cambodia’s image on the international stage, and help attracting more foreign investors to the country.

The forum reflects the strong potential in ASEAN and encouraged the ASEAN people, especially the youths, to enhance their knowledge, education, and achievement to respond to the region’s need, he added.

This event will bring a lot of benefits to Cambodia because it is a gathering of foreigner investors, international experts who will share their experiences and lesson learnt, said Mr. Mei Kalayan, another professor at the ITC, stressing that it is also a huge opportunity for Cambodian youths to learn and develop themselves as ASEAN people.

For his part, Mr. Ly Odam Pheaktra, a student at the ITC, expressed Cambodia’s pride to host this event, explaining that it is thanks to the country’s economic growth, infrastructure development and human resources.

He also mentioned about the potential of Cambodian youths compared to those in other ASEAN countries which will contribute to achieving the ASEAN Dream in the future.

Captain Ouk Soursdey, one of the security forces for the WEF on ASEAN, said security is tightened and safety is ensured for all participants.

Cambodia hosted this afternoon at ITC, Phnom Penh an open forum on ASEAN Dream, which is part of the WEF on ASEAN 2017. This session has been developed to give students the opportunity to discuss what their future might look like.

Mr. Anthony F. Fernandes, Group Chief Executive Officer, AirAsia, Malaysia; H.E. Kao Kim Hourn, Minister Attached to the Prime Minister of Cambodia; Ms. Wai Wai Nu, Founder and Director, Women Peace Network, Myanmar; and Mr. William Tanuwijaya, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Tokopedia, Malaysia were the speakers of this special session, introduced by Mr. Philipp RAlsler, Head of Regional and Government Engagement, Member of Managing Board, WEF; and moderated by Mr. Jamil Edmond Anderlini, Asia Editor, Financial Times, Hong Kong SAR.
