Cambodian, Lao Legislative Bodies To Update Existing Cooperation

The National Assemblies of the Kingdom of Cambodia and the Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Lao PDR) have agreed to review and update their existing memoranda of understanding in response to the current developments and needs.

The agreement was made by Samdech Akka Moha Ponhea Chakrei Heng Samrin, President of Cambodian NA, and his Lao counterpart H.E. Ms. Pany Yathotou, during their meeting yesterday in Vientiane, Lao PDR, according to a news release of the General Secretariat of Cambodian NA.

Both sides also expressed their satisfaction with the progress in the ties of friendship and cooperation between the two neighbouring nations, particularly between their legislative and executive bodies through the exchange of experience and visit.

Samdech Heng Samrin expressed his deep thanks to the Lao side for the warm hospitality and spoke highly of the achievements of the Lao people in their socio-economic development.

For her part, H.E. Ms. Pany Yathotou urged for the implementation of existing agreements at the level of specialised commissions and general secretariat. Moreover, she sought Cambodia’s support to the candidacy of Laos as Vice President of the Parliamentary Assembly of La Francophonie (APF) and invited a Cambodian NA delegation to attend an APF’s meeting to be hosted by Laos in August this year.
