Cambodian, Malaysian FMs Discuss Cooperation on Scam Crimes Combatting

H.E. Prak Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, had a phone conversation with H.E. Dato’ Sri Saifuddin Abdullah, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia, who was on a short working trip to Phnom Penh today, Sept. 9, 2022.

According to H.E. Chum Sounry, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Deputy PM and his Malaysian counterpart discussed the cooperation between the two countries on the joint efforts to fight against human trafficking and scam crimes.

Foreign Minister Dato’ Sri Saifuddin Abdullah expressed his thanks to the Cambodian government and concerned authorities for lending “a lot of assistance” and for doing “a great job” to help rescuing the victims. He also underlined that there are many Malaysians who come to Cambodia to do business and work successfully and only a small number are victims of the job scams.

Deputy PM Prak Sokhonn told Foreign Minister Dato’ Sri Saifuddin Abdullah that these crimes happen in every country, big or small and we all have to combat them, underlining the best way to do so is to join hand, to have good cooperation between the two countries.

The Deputy PM assured his counterpart of Cambodia’s readiness to work with the Malaysian Embassy in Phnom Penh to prevent and fight against these crimes.
