Cambodian NA President Highlights Key Role of AIPA Member Parliaments in Regional Collaboration for Peace and Development

Parliaments of ASEAN member countries have played a crucial role in promoting the regional cooperation in maintaining stability, security, economy, investment, tourism and post-COVID-19 recovery.
The note was highlighted by Samdech Akka Moha Ponhea Chakrei Heng Samrin, President of the National Assembly (NA) of Cambodia and President of the 43rd AIPA while presiding over the opening ceremony of the 2nd plenary session of the 43rd General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) here in Phnom Penh this morning.
The 43rd AIPA General Assembly reflects the close cooperation between regional parliaments and dialogue partners to respond efficiently to addressing any challenges in the region and the globe, said the Cambodian NA president.
Themed “Advancing Together for Sustainable, Inclusive and Resilient ASEAN”, parliamentary delegations from eight member countries including Cambodia, Brunei Darussalam, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, the Philippines and Indonesia joined the session.
The session listened to and adopted the reports presented by the Committee on Women Parliamentarians of AIPA (WAIP), Meeting of Young Parliamentarians of AIPA (YPA) and the Committees on Political, Economic, Social, and Organisational Matters.
At the same time, National Assemblies of Azerbaijan, Nepal and the U.S. were granted the observer status of AIPA.
Established on Sept. 2, 1977, the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly was originally called the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Organisation (AIPO), and the title was changed to AIPA in 2006.
AIPA serves as a legislative body of ASEAN member countries who take turn to host this annual event based on alphabetical order of the countries.
Cambodia is hosting the 43rd AIPA General Assembly from Nov. 20 to 25.
