Cambodian PM Appeals to Eligible People to Register for Next Election

Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, has called on all the eligible people to register for the next election.

Speaking at a ceremony to connect the main span of Koh Thom Bridge in Kandal province this morning, Samdech Techo Hun Sen said he will go to re-register on Sept. 1, 2016.

I would like to appeal to all eligible people to register from Sept. 1 onwards. Those who have already voted five times, they also have to re-register, even me Please use your right to elect a political party that you support, he underlined.

The premier also urged the Ministry of Interior to speed up the issuance of ID cards for the remaining over 1 million people, stressing that ID card is indispensable for the next election.

According to Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Cambodia is going to organise the commune/Sangkat council election on June 4, 2017, and the national election on July 29, 2018.

Recently, the National Election Committee of Cambodia (NEC) has recruited more than 6,000 contracted officials for the upcoming computerised voter registration at the communes/Sangkat across the country. The three-month registration process for the preparation of new voters' list 2016 will begin on Sept. 1, 2016. The Cambodian people aged from 18 years old (those who were born before or on June 5, 1999), who have old or new Identity Card (ID) with the same address of commune/Sangkat where they register, are eligible for the registration.
