Cambodian PM Calls for Contribution of Muslim Community in Maintaining Peace and Development

Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen appealed to the Muslim Community to act together with the Cambodian people with different religious beliefs and tendencies to maintain peace and development in Cambodia.

The Cambodian premier made the appeal on June 8 in a message to the Muslim community on the occasion of Ramadan.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen also reaffirmed the freedom of belief in Cambodia even though Buddhism is the state religion.

The Cambodian leader expressed his appreciation to the Cambodian Muslims’ participation in improving their own living standard, building their own communities and Cambodia, especially in ensuring the religious harmonisation in the country.

In addition, Samdech Techo Hun Sen confirmed his participation in the Ramadan Iftar Dinner on June 14 with Cambodian Muslim people, and some foreign Muslim friends will be also invited to the event.

Ramadan marks a month-long period of complete, daily fasting from sunrise to sunset for Muslims around the world. During this holy month, Muslims abstain from food, drink, and other physical needs to purify the soul, refocus attention to their faith, and practice self-sacrifice. The Iftar is the evening meal Muslims have to break their fast during Ramadan.
