Cambodian PM Calls for Free and Fair Commune/Sangkat Council Election

Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, called on here this afternoon local authorities to further cooperate with each other for the free and fair commune/Sangkat council election this year.

Addressing to the closing ceremony of the 2016 Work Review and 2017 Directive Setting Conference of the Ministry of Interior, Samdech Techo Hun Sen appealed to all stakeholders to join hands to maintain a good environment for the upcoming commune/Sangkat council election in order to promote the democratisation process and the rule of law in Cambodia.

The commune/Sangkat council election is scheduled to be held on June 4, 2017, and nearly 8 million people, or 81.47 percent of the total 9.6 million eligible voters, have been registered via the computerised registration process supported by the EU and Japan.

At the same time, the premier advised the competent authorities to maintain peace, stability and social order, and to continue to combat drugs, boost the decentralisation and deconcentration reform, and so on.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen also urged the local authorities to further improve the public service provision, boost social protection, and do their best to solve local people’s problems.
