CAMBODIAN PM CELEBRATES INT’L LABOR DAY WITH FACTORY WORKERS

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen on Tuesday celebrated the International Labor Day with thousands of factory workers at the Phnom Penh Special Economic Zone here.

At the celebrations, Hun Sen allowed the workers to take selfies with him, and he also danced and had lunch with them.

"I don't have any speech today, but gifts for our 5,515 workers -- each of them gets 50,000 riels (12.5 U.S. dollars)," the prime minister briefly said.

The garment and footwear sector, the kingdom's largest foreign exchange earner, is comprised of 1,154 factories with some 770,000 workers, 83 percent of whom are women, according to the Ministry of Labor.

The Southeast Asian country exported apparel and footwear products worth 7.6 billion U.S. dollars last year, up 4.1 percent from 7.3 billion U.S. dollars in the previous year.
