Cambodian PM Meets Vietnamese Leaders

Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, held separate talks with Vietnamese top leaders, including General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam H.E. Nguyen Phu Trong, President H.E. Tran Dai Quang, and Chairwoman of the National Assembly H.E. Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, on Dec. 20 in Hanoi, during his two-day official visit in Vietnam.

According to the National Television of Kampuchea (TVK)’s report, both sides spoke highly of the good relations and cooperation between the two neighboring nations and lauded the progress in each other’s country.

H.E. Nguyen Phu Trong highly valued the outcome of the cooperation between both countries’ public and private sectors and pushed for the next level of cooperation. He also wished Cambodia success in the organisation of the commune/Sangkat council election next year and the national election in 2018.

In the courtesy call on H.E. Tran Dai Quang, Samdech Techo Hun Sen conveyed the greetings of His Majesty Norodom Sihamoni, King of Cambodia, to the Vietnamese president, and expressed thanks for Vietnam’s contribution and support to the development of Cambodia.

In the meeting with H.E. Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, the Cambodian premier expressed his satisfaction with the close cooperation between the two countries’ legislative bodies, while the Vietnamese NA chairwoman welcomed the outcome of the bilateral talks between the Cambodian and Vietnamese prime ministers, especially the signing of three cooperation documents between both governments.

Earlier on the same day, Samdech Techo Hun Sen held a bilateral meeting with his Vietnamese counterpart H.E. Nguyen Xuan Phuc, during which they expressed their commitment to end the remaining border demarcation and border marker planting work as soon as possible.

The two leaders agreed to create a high-level meeting, boost the exchange of visit at all levels, and promote the people-to-people connectivity, as well as to work together in the organisation of the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Cambodia and Vietnam.

Following their talks, Samdech Techo Hun Sen and H.E. Nguyen Xuan Phuc witnessed the signing ceremony of three cooperation documents – the Treaty on extradition, the Treaty on mutual legal assistance in criminal cases, and the agreement on the cooperation between the Ministry of Cults and Religion of Cambodia and the Committee on Ethnic Minority Affairs of Vietnam.
