Cambodian PM: Progress of Digital Technologies, a Good Opportunity for Socio-Economic Development

Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, has spoken highly of the significance of digital technologies, stressing that their progress is a good opportunity for socio-economic development.

The Cambodian Premier shared the idea in his keynote address at the plenary session of the 32nd ASEAN Summit held in Singapore this morning.

Meanwhile, he added, the use of Internet for terrorist purposes and other crimes as well as to disseminate terrorist activities is a serious challenge to national, regional and global security.

Cambodia hopes that the ASEAN Leaders' Statement on Cybersecurity Cooperation adopted during the 32nd ASEAN Summit will promote closer coordination among the ASEAN countries on cybersecurity policy and capacity building initiative through the exchange of experience and innovations, he underlined.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen was also convinced that with the initiative of establishing ASEAN Smart Cities Network, ASEAN will find new methods to draw benefits from technologies to boost the economic growth and enhance the people's living standard.

For the preparation of Smart Cities, the Cambodian Prime Minister called for attention to the creation of self-operation management mechanism, of favourable financial mechanism to help develop Smart Cities for each ASEAN member countries, and of common standard and mechanism to support the development of ASEAN cities as a whole.
