Cambodian PM Receives Head of WEF’s Asia-Pacific Regional Agenda

Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, held talks here this morning with visiting H.E. Joo-Ok Lee, Head of Regional Agenda, Asia-Pacific and Member of the Executive Committee of World Economic Forum (WEF).
According to H.E. Eang Sophalleth, Assistant to the Premier, H.E. Joo-Ok Lee congratulated Cambodia on holding the rotating ASEAN chairmanship and expressed strong interest in the progress of Cambodia compared to his previous visit in the Kingdom in 2017.
H.E. Joo-Ok Lee also briefed Samdech Techo Hun Sen on the organisation process of the World Economic Forum scheduled for June 2022 and sought recommendations of Samdech Techo Hun Sen as the ASEAN Chair.
For his part, the Cambodian Prime Minister agreed with H.E. Joo-Ok Lee that Cambodia would see faster progress without COVID-19. Anyway, he continued, Cambodia has been building strong herd immunity against the pandemic through vaccination and was able to reopen the country since November 2021. Therefore, the Cambodian economy is expected to grow at around 5.6 percent this year.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen continued that as the ASEAN Chair, he wanted the ASEAN nations to cooperate to re-open their countries simultaneously, to promote relations within the AFTA (ASEAN Free Trade Area) framework, boost regional trade and complement each other in the new normal context.
Samdech Techo Prime Minister also gave H.E. Joo-Ok Lee his views on the One-Plus formula, i.e. investing in a country and another country nearby to ensure stable supply of goods when one country faces a crisis. He also laid stress on the potential of digital sector for investment, saying that the sector has not only been affected by the COVID-19 crisis, but also has been growing rapidly.
