Cambodian PM Receives High Representative of EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy

Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen received here this morning visiting High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, H.E. Josep Borrell Fontelles.

This meeting was held on the sidelines of the 55th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (55th AMM) and Related Meetings.

According to H.E. Eang Sophalleth, Assistant to the Cambodian Premier, the meeting touched upon a number of areas, including the Cambodia-EU cooperation, Everything But Arms (EBA) preferential trade scheme, Russian-Ukraine War, Myanmar issue, the ASEAN-EU Commemorative Summit in Brussel this year.

On the occasion, Samdech Techo Hun Sen thanked the EU for its support for Cambodia in hosting ASEM last year and in assuming the ASEAN chairmanship this year.

The Cambodian Premier expressed his support for the preparation for the ASEAN-EU Commemorative Summit to be held in December 2022, and recalled the EU’s assistance to Cambodia since 1992.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen also voiced his support for the EU’s concept paper on ASEAN-EU leadership on Indo-Pacific to be approved at the upcoming ASEAN-EU Commemorative Summit.

Besides, he reiterated that Cambodia will not take the issue of sovereignty in exchange for tariff preferences.

On the Ukraine-Russia war, Samdech Techo Prime Minister said that the sanctions imposed on Russia do not only affect Russia, but also hurt European nations and the whole world.
