Cambodian PM To Attend 8th ACMECS Summit and Chair the 9th CLMV Summit This Week

Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, will lead a high-level delegation to attend the 8th Ayeyawady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy Summit (8th ACMECS) and to chair the 9th Cambodia-Lao PDR-Myanmar-Vietnam Summit (9th CLMV Summit), in Bangkok, Thailand, from June 15 to 16, 2018.

According to a press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MFA-IC) issued this afternoon, the 8th ACMECS summit will be held on June 15-16 under the theme Towards and Integrated and Connected Mekong Community and will be chaired by H.E. Prayut Chan-o-Cha, Prime Minister of Thailand. The leaders participating in this summit will discuss how to enhance competency to generate stronger economic growth along borders, to minimise economic development gap as well as to contribute to strengthening peace, stability and ASEAN integration as a whole. At the end of the summit, three important documents will be adopted, namely: List of Prioritised Projects, ACMECS Master Plan 2019-2023, and Bangkok Declaration.

In the framework of this summit, Samdech Techo Hun Sen will also attend the ACMECS CEO Forum during which he will deliver a key note speech focusing on enhancing ACMECS cooperation and integration.

On June 16, 2018, Samdech Techo Hun Sen will chair the 9th CLMV Summit which will be participated by H.E. Mr. Thongloun Sisoulith, Prime Minister of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, H.E. Mr. U Win Myint, President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, and H.E. Mr. Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. H.E. Mr. Dato Lim Jock Hoi, Secretary-General of ASEAN has also been invited to attend this summit.

In the 9th CLMV Summit to take place under the theme For Greater Economic Integration and Connectivity, the leaders will review the progress of the CLMV cooperation over the past year and discuss how to further harness member countries’ economic potentials and enhance cooperation in priority areas in order to achieve sustainable and inclusive development in the region and promote infrastructure and people to people linkages, thereby contributing to the development of the ASEAN community.

At the end of this summit, a joint statement will be adopted, to be followed by a press conference by Samdech Techo Hun Sen.

It is worth noting that members of the CLMV cooperation framework have witnessed rapid economic growth thanks to the reform efforts of their respective leaders to liberalise and facilitate economic and trade exchanges in combination with other incentive factors such as low labour cost, favourable demographic trend and strategic location.

On the sidelines of the 9th CLMV Summit, Samdech Techo Prime Minister Hun Sen will attend a working breakfast with H.E. Thongloun Sisoulith and H.E. Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

While staying in Bangkok, Samdech Techo Prime Minister Hun Sen will also have a bilateral talk with H.E. Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha in order to strengthen and further deepen cordial and productive bilateral relations between Cambodia and Thailand.

The Cambodian Premier will be accompanied by H.E. Prak Sokhonn, Senior Minister and Minister of MFA-IC, H.E. Sun Chanthol, Senior Minister and Minister of Public Works and Transport, H.E. Thong Khon, Minister of Tourism, Mr. Pan Sorasak, Minister of Commerce, and H.E. Say Samal, Minister of Environment, as well as other members of the Royal Government of Cambodia.
