Cambodian PM to Co-Chair ASEAN-EU Commemorative Summit in December

AKP Phnom Penh, August 04, 2022 — ASEAN and the European Union have agreed to hold the ASEAN-EU Commemorative Summit on Dec. 14, 2022 in Brussel, Belgium, said H.E. Kung Phoak, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and Spokesperson of the 55th AMM and Related Meetings.

The summit will be co-chaired by Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen and the EU’s counterpart, he said at the press conference this evening.

The commemorative summit was raised in the ASEAN-EU Ministerial Meeting in Phnom Penh today. In the meeting, all foreign ministers also discussed and adopted the action plan to implement the strategic partnership, the spokesperson said.

Moreover, he continued, they touched on the ASEAN-EU action plan which sets out a wide range of areas for a deeper cooperation including pandemic recovery, trade, rules-based, sustainable connectivity, climate change, research, and security.

The ASEAN-EU Commemorative Summit will be the first-ever summit involving all 27 EU leaders, with their ten ASEAN counterparts.

The ASEAN and EU have expanded their longstanding relationship by becoming Strategic Partners in 2020, from dialogue partnership. The EU is also a member of the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) Ministerial Meeting.
