Cambodian Top Diplomat to Discuss EBA Issue with EU in January

Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation H.E. Prak Sokhonn will discuss Everything-but-Arm (EBA) trade preferential scheme issue with the European Union next month, during his stay in Brussels, Belgium for the ASEAN-EU Ministerial Meeting.

H.E. Ket Sophann, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, told this to reporters after the meeting here yesterday between H.E. Prak Sokhonn and newly appointed Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia H.E. Wang Wentian.

EBA is an initiative of the European Union under which all imports to the EU from the Least Developed Countries are duty-free and quota-free, with the exception of armaments. EBA entered into force on Mar. 5, 2001.

It has contributed to sustainable economic growth and job creation in various fields in Cambodia, especially in light industrial sector such as garment and textile.
