Cambodian, Vietnamese Female Legislators’ Cooperation Discussed

President of Vietnam Women’s Union has requested the President of Cambodian National Assembly (NA) to facilitate experience sharing cooperation between its female lawmakers and the Vietnam Women’s Union.
Visiting Ms. Ha Thi Nga, also a Member of the Communist Party Central Committee and a Member of the Vietnamese NA, made the request on July 26 when received by Samdech Akka Moha Ponhea Chakrei Heng Samrin, President of Cambodian NA, at the NA Palace in Phnom Penh.
Thanking the Cambodian NA President for his time and warm hospitality, Ms. Ha Thi Nga highlighted key achievements of the two women’s entities so far and their next five-year cooperation plan.
According to Ms. Ha Thi Nga, among the 499 members of the Vietnamese NA, 151 or around 30 percent are women.
Samdech Heng Samrin expressed his full support for the cooperation, stressing that female representation in politics is not only positive for respective country, but also beneficial globally.
The presence of women is an indispensable backbone for peace, social order and socio-economic growth, he added.
Samdech Heng Samrin continued that in Cambodia, women’s participation in both the state and private sectors has been enhanced at both national and sub-national levels.
