Cambodian, Vietnamese Ministers of Transport Discuss Infrastructure Construction and Connectivity

Cambodia's Senior Minister H.E. Sun Chanthol, Minister of Public Works and Transport held a bilateral talks with his Vietnamese counterpart H.E. Truong Quang Nghia, in Hanoi, Vietnam on Jan. 11.

According to a news release of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, in the bilateral meeting, H.E. Sun Chanthol expressed his appreciation and thanks for the invitation, ongoing cooperation, and support afforded by the Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in contribution to the rehabilitation and development of transport infrastructure in Cambodia such as the construction of NR 78, Chrey Thom-Long Binh Bridge, and the connecting road between O Yadav-Le Thanh.

Both sides took note of the cooperation between the two countries and the two ministries on the feasibility study for the construction of Phnom Penh-Bavet and Ho Chi Minh-Moc Bai expressway projects and the cooperation strategy in transport sector 2016-2025 and the vision 2030.

The draft MoUs for the mentioned cooperation will be finalized with the consultation from other involved ministries and authorities, underlined H.E. Sun Chanthol.

H.E. Senior Minister expressed his strong commitment to continue to establish joint committee to further discuss inland waterways and maritime transport development and sought support from the Vietnamese side on the Singapore Kunming Rail Link project so as to complete the connectivity from Lok Ning to Ho Chi Minh.

For his part, H.E. Truong Quang Nghia expressed his country's strong commitment to continue to assist Cambodia in the infrastructure development and improved connectivity.

He also noted on the importance of further cooperation on the establishment and improvement of cross border gates, study and construction of expressway Phnom Penh-Bavet-Ho Chi Minh, and the working groups on inland waterways and maritime transports, so as to extend the mutual interest of the people of the two countries.
