Cambodian, WEF Officials Provide Updates on WEF on ASEAN in Phnom Penh

Senior officials of the World Economic Forum (WEF) on ASEAN 2017 Organising Committee have updated the media on the WEF on ASEAN to take place in Cambodia this week.

At a press conference held here this morning at the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, Mr. Justin Wood, WEF’s Head of the Asia Pacific region, said more than 700 participants from 40 countries will attend this forthcoming event.

Among them, he pointed out, there will be over 90 public figures, representing the 10 ASEAN nations, including four ASEAN leaders � Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen of the Kingdom of Cambodia; Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic; President Rodrigo Roa Duterte of the Republic of the Philippines; and Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

Besides, more than 200 media organisations, including 14 major TV stations, will take part in covering this forum, he added.

This forthcoming event will be co-chaired by six businessmen in the region and the world such as Mr. Jamaludin Ibrahim, Managing Director, President and Group Chief Executive Officer, Axiata Group Berhad; Mr. Wolfgang Jamann, Secretary General and Chief Executive Officer, Care International Switzerland; Mr. Jin Liqun, President of Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank; Mr. John Rice, Vice Chairman of GE Hong Kong SAR; Ms. Tan Hooi Ling, Co-Founder, Grab Singapore; and Mr. Tevin Vongvanich, Chief Executive Officer of PTT Thailand, and attended by more than 450 business leaders, he said.

For his part, Cambodian Senior Minister H.E. Sun Chanthol, Minister of Public Works and Transport, Chairman of the WEF on ASEAN 2017 Organising Committee, underlined that this is an honour and a privilege for Cambodia to host this 26th WEF on ASEAN.

It showcases the strong commitment of Cambodian leaders, especially Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen, to build another way of promoting Cambodia to the international arena, he said.

Cambodia has successfully hosted many international and regional events, forums and meetings, and this forum is another way to build the image of Cambodia better than the Killing Field, Landmines etc., he stressed.

H.E. Kao Kim Hourn, Minister Attached to the Prime Minister, said that this event will be an internationalised engagement for Cambodia to learn and share her tourism and investment potentials, and create new business opportunities.

Cambodia will host the WEF on ASEAN this week, from May 10 to 12 under the theme Youth, Technology and Growth: Securing ASEAN’s Demographic and Digital Dividends.
