Cambodia’s Economic Growth Projected at 4.8% in 2022

The Ministry of Economy and Finance has forecast Cambodia’s economic growth at 2.4 percent this year, before rising to 4.8 percent in 2022, as the country is expected to recover economically resulting from the nationwide vaccination campaign to build community immunity and the resumption of social and business activities.
Speaking at a Parliamentary Workshop on Building Macroeconomic Policy Framework and Public Financial Policy for Drafting the Law on National Budget 2022 this morning, H.E. Aun Pornmoniroth, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Finance, said that the growth was originally projected at 4.0 percent in 2021, but due to the February 20 community outbreak, along with the presence of a new strain of virus, it has been lowered to 2.4 percent.
In the fight against COVID-19, he added, the government has disbursed about US$719 million in interventions to protect the people’s lives, stabilise their livelihoods and support business activities, but due to the February 20 incident, the COVID-19 intervention budget could reach US$1,454 million.
