Cambodia’s Labour Cost Higher Than Some Neighboring Countries

Labour cost in Cambodia is seen higher than Laos, Vietnam and Myanmar, H.E. Pich Sophoan, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Laborr and Vocational Training, told reporters here on June 28 after a workshop on “Productivity and Quality Improvement.”

The Royal Government of Cambodia has been paying high attention to workers’ issues, especially to yearly increase of their wages, said the secretary of state, adding that demonstration and strike will not bring benefit, but problems to us.

H.E. Pich Sophoan also called for attention to labour productivity and quality, not only to the wage increments.

In addition, H.E. Secretary of State appealed to all relevant sides to take part in discussion and finding a peaceful solution rather than causing chaos, and to people to obey the law to avoid any violence.

The current minimum wage of garment and footwear workers is roughly US$140 per month, up from US$128 in 2015.
