Cassava Collection Centre Formulated to Address Pricing Issue

Ministry of Commerce has identified Phnom Prek region of Cambodia’s northwestern Battambang province as cassava collection centre for exports to China, according to local media report.

The formation of collection centre was made in order to address cassava price issue that broke out last year, and the region of Battambang was selected thanks to the crop production capacity of not only the provinces, but also its neighbors.

According to the source, Battambang and its neighboring Banteay Meanchey and Pailin provinces have been committing their 100,000 hectares for cassava farming in an annual average.

The existence of cassava collection centre will regulate the price of cassava and discourage different pricing set by middlemen for their individual interest.

Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries accordingly encouraged cassava farmers to produce as much crop as they can without worrying about pricing challenges.
