Media Role in SEA Games, Support for Coverage Discussed

The media will play a vital role reporting the SEA Games-ASEAN Para Games 2023 in Cambodia to the world.

The note was highlighted by H.E. Vath Chamroeun, Secretary General of the Cambodian SEA Games Organising Committee (CAMSOC) and Cambodian ASEAN Para Games Organising Committee (CAMAPGOC) in a meeting with H.E. Phos Sovann, Government Delegate, Director General at the Ministry on Feb. 6.

H.E. Phos Sovann was tasked to lead CAMSOC’s Committees on Information and Broadcasting and Technology Games.

The two discussed media registration process and other needful facilitation to ensure quality coverage during the games.

As there are only 88 days left toward the 32nd SEA Games and the 12th ASEAN Para Games, the committee will soon prepare media registration centre for both national and international journalists.

The committee warmly welcome national and international journalists to cover the events as well as Cambodia’s key achievements, including the new Morodok Techo National Stadium and tourism destinations in the country.

Kun Khmer Approves 19 Events for SEA Games 2023

Kun Khmer has approved 19 events for the 32nd SEA Games to be hosted by Cambodia.

The information was announced early this week by the International Kun Khmer Federation following the 1st Kun Khmer International Meeting held here in Phnom Penh last week with the participation of SEA Games mission heads from eight countries.

Of the 19 events, there are 11 weight-categories for men, 6 weight-categories for women, and Men and Women Kun Krou.

Seven countries including Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Indonesia, Philippines, and Vietnam have confirmed to join the sport at the forthcoming SEA Games.

Thirty-seven (37) sports and a demonstration sport have been officially listed for the SEA Games 2023 and 13 for the 12th ASEAN Para Games.

Cambodia will host the 32nd SEA Games and the 12th ASEAN Para Games from May 5 to 17, 2023 and from Jun. 3 to 9, 2023 respectively, under the motto “Sport: Live in Peace”.

Cambodian Boxer and Kickboxer to Join Competition in China

Cambodian boxer and kickboxer will join the WES event at the People’s Republic of China, according to the President of Cambodia Kickboxing Federation and Secretary General of Cambodia Boxing Federation.

The president H.E. Heng Sokkhorn unveiled the plan in a press conference here in Phnom Penh on Jan. 30.

Cambodia’s participation will not only contribute to further enhancing Cambodia-China friendship, but also serving as a new opportunity to promote Kun Khmer (Cambodian boxing) and kickboxing, he added.

The medallist at SEA Games 2022 in Vietnam Mr. Lorn Panha will join the match with the host boxer on Feb. 3.

Mr. Guo Yang, Chairman of LoongHai Boxing Club, was glad to cooperate with the Cambodian federations to bring Cambodian boxer to compete in China.

That will be a new opportunity for Cambodia to send athlete for the competition in China and the federations are also planning to send Cambodian athletes for another competition in Greece.

In June 2023, four Cambodian athletes will participate in a match in the United States of America and four others in France.

About 170 Athletes Joining 2022 Kun Bokator Championships

Bokator Federation of Cambodia (BFC) is organising the 2022 Kun Bokator National Championships from Dec. 28 to 30 in Phnom Penh with the participation of some 170 athletes.
Addressing the opening of the competition on Dec. 28, H.E. Keo Remy, Minister Attached to the Prime Minister and Vice President of BFC, appreciated the strong support of both the public and private sector for Cambodia’s Kun Bokator.
The sport is an ancient Khmer martial art inscribed on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity of UNESCO, said H.E. Keo Remy.
He also asked arbitrators and judges to adhere with neutrality and fairness when engaging in the competition.
According to Mr. Ou Dara, Deputy Secretary General of BFC, the event is organised under the support of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, and the Cambodian SEA Games Organising Committee (CAMSOC).
Cambodia’s ambition is not only to advance the sport within the ASEAN region and for the SEA Games 2023, but also in the Asian continent in the future, like Karate and Taekwondo
Cambodia is planning to establish clubs of Kun Bokator in approximately 20,000 pagodas across the country.

Cycling Promoted Ahead of SEA Games 2023 in Cambodia

President of the Cambodian Cycling Federation has encouraged the expansion of cycling ahead of the SEA Games 2023 to be hosted by Cambodia.
H.E. Pan Sorasak, Minister of Commerce and President of the Cambodian Cycling Federation, made the call in the closing ceremony of the 2022 National Cycling Championship in Siem Reap province early this week.
He stressed on further training for nursery level and increasing the number of cyclists at clubs and associations in provinces, cities, ministries, and institutions; and the strengthening of the capacity of coaches, athletes, and technical officials.
The minister also urged for the strengthening of the federation’s internal management structure and relation between the clubs and associations across the country, and the engagement of more development partners.
The 2022 National Cycling Championship was a good opportunity for Cambodian athletes to warm up their capacity for the SEA Games 2023, he added.
The event taking place from Dec. 26 to 27 attracted the participation of 285 cyclists, according to Mr. Nou Chamroeun, Secretary General of Cambodian Cycling Federation.
Of the number, 80 competed for Road Bike and 205 others for Mountain Bike.
Road Bike included three disciplines: Man Junior Road Bike, Man Elite Road Bike, and Man Master Road Bike.
Mountain Bike covered four disciplines which were Man Junior Mountain Bike, Man Elite Mountain Bike, Women Mountain Bike and Man Master Mountain Bike.
Twelve Cambodian national athletes, 4 of them are female, joined the tournament to accumulate more experience for the SEA Games 2023.
