China Pledges to Cooperate in Rail Transport Development in Cambodia

China Railway Construction Corporation Limited (CRCC), one of the ten largest public enterprises of China, has pledged to cooperate with Cambodia in railroad transport development.

This was made known by the Cambodian Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT) in a news release, highlighting the recent meeting between Cambodian Senior Minister and Minister of MPWT H.E. Sun Chanthol and Mr. Wang Wenzhong, Vice President of CRCC, as part of the former’s official visit in China.

H.E. Sun Chanthol requested CRCC to join with the Royal Government of Cambodia in a development project on railroad sector improvement in Cambodia to foster the Kingdom’s economic growth, particularly to ease the transport of passengers and main goods like paddy and milled rice, petroleum, and other equipment as well as to reduce logistics expense, traffic accidents and congestion, and to save time.

The Chinese side agreed with the request and promised to prioritise such cooperation in order to help develop the rail transport sector in Cambodia.
