Civil Servants’ Smart ID Cards Officially Launched

Smart identification cards for civil servants were officially launched on Wednesday by the Ministry of Civil Service and the partnered commercial banks – Wing Bank Plc., ACLEDA Bank Plc., and Canadia Bank Plc.
The launching ceremony was held at Cambodiana Hotel in Phnom Penh under the presidency of Minister of Civil Service H.E. Prum Sokha, and representatives from the commercial banks.
The new smart ID card is with multiple features, including ATM facility.
The smart cards are issued to response to the ongoing trend of cutting-edge technology, as well as the new normal way of life, the ministry said.
The issuance of smart ID cards reflects the government’s efforts in building digital government through the modernisation of public service.
With the new ID cards, civil servants will be able to get their salaries via the three banks without having to use their ATM cards, he said.
“Some 220,000 public staff at the national and sub-national level can use the new smart cards as their respective ID cards, ATM cards for withdrawing salaries from partnered banks and for other functions,” he said.
The civil servants’ ID cards have been issued twice, between 1993 and 2015.
