Commerce Minister Appreciates Better Factories Cambodia Initiative

H.E. Pan Sorasak, Minister of Commerce, has spoken highly of the roles of Better Factories Cambodia (BFC) supported by the International Labour Organisation (ILO) for its contribution to textile and garment industry in Cambodia.

H.E. Pan Sorasak shared the appreciation while receiving a courtesy call from Ms. Nguyen Hong Ha, Programme Manager of ILO-BFC, at the ministry office on Wednesday afternoon.

He highlighted the efforts of the Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC) in promoting the textile and footwear industry though the support and continued cooperation with ILO-BFC, including the amendment of labour law, improvement of worker's rights and development of support strategic direction.

The minister also mentioned about the good cooperation between ILO-BFC and the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training, and requested ILO to further share knowledge and experience with his officials, particularly in work evaluation at factories.

He encouraged the speeding-up of the preparation for BFC memorandum of understanding for 2020-2022 to be signed in the coming October.

For her part, Ms. Nguyen Hong Ha thanked the minister for his information sharing and expressed her appreciation of Cambodian government's support for ILO-BFC.

She pledged to disseminate the good practice in Cambodia to investment companies to further build their trust and engagement in garment manufacturing industry of Cambodia.
